{"id":68,"date":"2015-01-04T19:22:00","date_gmt":"2015-01-04T19:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cinnamonstudio.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/04\/a-celebration-of-american-quilts\/"},"modified":"2015-01-04T19:22:00","modified_gmt":"2015-01-04T19:22:00","slug":"a-celebration-of-american-quilts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinnamonstudio.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/a-celebration-of-american-quilts.html","title":{"rendered":"&quot;A Celebration of American Quilts&quot;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u201cA Celebration of American Quilts\u201d is a small exhibition accompanied by a very large reference volume, \u201cFour Centuries of Quilts\u201d.&nbsp; The DeWitt Wallace Art Museum, one of the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, is showing only a small number of quilts from their large collection (12 quilts).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The real gem is not the exhibit, however, but the large reference volume written by curators Linda Baumgarten and Kimberly Smith Ivey, with 356 pages and over 300 color illustrations.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The history of quilting fabrics is a long one.&nbsp; Early warriors and fire fighters wore garments of heavily quilted cotton and other fibers for protection.&nbsp; Quilted cloth was a protection from the elements and was also used as padding.&nbsp; Quilts, as bedcovers, did not originated in the US, although quilting has been extremely popular in this country.
