This juried fair<br \/>\nfeatures traditional Spanish crafts by fabulous artisans.&nbsp; One of the craft categories is Colcha<br \/>\nEmbroidery.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-_nk_YnQVvFk\/UCVGNiwpz_I\/AAAAAAAAAWg\/Tmv1GpIphho\/s1600\/colcha+1+copy.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-_nk_YnQVvFk\/UCVGNiwpz_I\/AAAAAAAAAWg\/Tmv1GpIphho\/s400\/colcha+1+copy.jpg\" width=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nColcha, in Spanish, means a bed covering and in the context<br \/>\nof embroidery is actually the name of the stitch used to create elaborate<br \/>\ndesigns.&nbsp; This wool on wool embroidery<br \/>\nis referred to as sabanilla labrada, which may have been developed in New<br \/>\nMexico during the Spanish Colonial Period.&nbsp;<br \/>\nSabanilla is a loosely woven wool fabric made from homespun yarns in<br \/>\nnatural colors.&nbsp; It was traditionally woven<br \/>\nin 30 inch widths which were seamed if intended for a bed covering.&nbsp; They were also used for altar covers, rugs<br \/>\nand furniture covers.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-yEhfC8gAoW0\/UCVGt--LnII\/AAAAAAAAAXI\/NWYRdHy2w7Q\/s1600\/colcha+7.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"247\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-yEhfC8gAoW0\/UCVGt--LnII\/AAAAAAAAAXI\/NWYRdHy2w7Q\/s400\/colcha+7.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThe handspun<br \/>\nembroidery yarns were dyed green, yellow, indigo and red in addition to the<br \/>\nnatural colors of the sheep\u2019s wool.&nbsp;<br \/>\nThese textiles are usually finished with a fringe.&nbsp; Motifs include florals and designs<br \/>\nresembling Indian chintz, which were popular in Spain during the colonial<br \/>\nperiod.&nbsp; There are needle-workers who<br \/>\nuse a non-traditional wool on cotton technique, however the most prized colchas<br \/>\ncreated today are made in the traditional manner.<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;
