The exact history of the manufacture<br \/>\nof velvet is sketchy, but the prevailing evidence indicates that it originated<br \/>\nalong the fabled Silk Road and was brought west with the Arab invasion of North<br \/>\nAfrica and Eastern Europe.&nbsp; By the<br \/>\nRenaissance, Italy had become the leading center for its production.
