{"id":456,"date":"2014-01-19T17:58:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-19T17:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cinnamonstudio.com\/blog\/2014\/01\/19\/canvas-2\/"},"modified":"2014-01-19T17:58:00","modified_gmt":"2014-01-19T17:58:00","slug":"canvas-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinnamonstudio.com\/blog\/2014\/01\/canvas-2.html","title":{"rendered":"Canvas"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<h1>\nCanvas<\/h1>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<h1>\n<span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">\u201cSailing\u2026.Oh the canvas can do miracles ,<br \/>\njust you wait and see<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n<h2>\nChristopher Cross<\/h2>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">About<br \/>\nthis time of year my husband and I might be planning a trip to the South<br \/>\nPacific to visit his relatives.&nbsp; Of<br \/>\ncourse, sailing, and any water sport is the sport of choice there.&nbsp; Moving here, he traded his boat for a<br \/>\nbicycle and the sea for the desert.&nbsp;<br \/>\nWhen one thinks of the fabric we call canvas we think of sails,<br \/>\nalthough, today with modern technology, sails are manufactured of lightweight,<br \/>\nbut very durable synthetics.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">But<br \/>\nthis is not what brought the subject of canvas fabric to my mind.&nbsp; I happened upon some sketches of Native<br \/>\nAmerican pottery and decided to paint some small samples.&nbsp; So out came my pad of primed, canvas paper,<br \/>\nwhich I use when I paint textile samples.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">So<br \/>\nwhat exactly is canvas fabric?&nbsp; Actually<br \/>\nit can be cotton, hemp, linen or combinations.&nbsp;<br \/>\nIt is a heavy, coarsely woven, plain weave or twill.&nbsp; Another term is Duck, which originated in<br \/>\nDenmark (doek, which means cloth).&nbsp;<br \/>\nThere are many types, but the most common association is of cotton in<br \/>\nthe griege (gray) state used for sails, sacking and other industrial uses.
