Knowing, of course, my great interest in all things textile, &nbsp;he<br \/>\nasked if I would want this package, which, when unwrapped revealed a camel<br \/>\nblanket, more specifically a saddle pannier.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\">Pannier is a word from old French meaning a basket ( a pair<br \/>\nof baskets) hung across the back of a pack animal for carrying goods.&nbsp; In this case my pannier is a woven blanket<br \/>\nnot a wicker basket as nomadic people had little contact with vegetable fibers<br \/>\nand used woven bags (kep) to transport their possessions.&nbsp; Pannier-bags (khurjin) are common to every<br \/>\ngroup.&nbsp; Woven as one long textile, the<br \/>\nends are drawn up to the center and sewn creating pouches.&nbsp; The size of the woven pannier depends upon<br \/>\nthe<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\">animal : camel, horse, mule and the goods to be transported.&nbsp; The underside, which is not seen, is usually<br \/>\nplain in pattern, while the folded sides are decorated with traditional<br \/>\npatterns.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-xft8eCTrI_Q\/VANyzup2DLI\/AAAAAAAAB-A\/VdsBxBX_rkE\/s1600\/camel%2Bblanket%2B2.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-xft8eCTrI_Q\/VANyzup2DLI\/AAAAAAAAB-A\/VdsBxBX_rkE\/s1600\/camel%2Bblanket%2B2.jpg\" height=\"640\" width=\"466\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Traditional Textiles of Central Asia, Janet Harvey, Thames and Hudson, 1996<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\">My new possession is very colorful and embellished with<br \/>\ndozens of colorful tassels and long dark tassels at the ends.
