\nThe Runway<\/span><\/div>\n

\nEvery year \u201cfashion week\u201d appears on the runways of Paris,
\nNew York and London as well as other international venues.  Designers present their collections modeled
\nby professionals looking like bored mannequins. These collections are the
\nartistic expressions of what is considered to be the most promising talents and
\nalso seasoned textile designers. While some of the fabric creations appear
\nsomewhat \u201cover-the-top\u201d they are intended to present the vision of what textile
\nfashion could become.  Amazing
\nmanipulations of fabrics, dazzling embellishments and rainbows of color
\ncombinations can be seen on the \u201ccat walks\u201d.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIt may be compared to the reactions from the art salons when
\npaintings from the Impressionists, Surrealists, Minimalists and other forward
\nthinking artists pushed the envelope. 
\nNow we view these as masterpieces which reveal windows into the public
\npsyche.    Innovation is sometimes
\ndisturbing as it removes us from our comfort zones.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBut take heart. 
\nCouture and ready-to-wear are two different animals, and the history of
\ntheir rivalry is an interesting study in manufacture, marketing and creative
\nambitions.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThis new addition to my reference library is not \u201cjust a
\nhistory of fashion from the early days of the creation of dressmaking fashion
\nto the development of ready-to-wear manufacturing\u2026Its ambition is to be the
