{"id":385,"date":"2015-07-03T18:47:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-03T18:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cinnamonstudio.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/03\/july-4-2\/"},"modified":"2015-07-03T18:47:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-03T18:47:00","slug":"july-4-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinnamonstudio.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/july-4-2.html","title":{"rendered":"July 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<\/p>\n<div>\nHappy Birthday to us<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-iss4xYBpglM\/T-4RXpKU_3I\/AAAAAAAAAQc\/O_VDB0V6frA\/s1600\/fireworks4.jpg\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"257\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-iss4xYBpglM\/T-4RXpKU_3I\/AAAAAAAAAQc\/O_VDB0V6frA\/s320\/fireworks4.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThis holiday evokes fond memories for most Americans.&nbsp; I grew up in a small town and on July 4 the<br \/>\ntown sponsored a parade featuring (usually in this order) the high school band<br \/>\nin uniform, Boy and Girl Scouts in uniform, veterans in various uniforms of<br \/>\ntheir branch of service, old men driving old vintage cars, and children of all<br \/>\nages on bicycles decorated with crepe paper and flags.&nbsp; This procession would wind around the<br \/>\nstreets before finally stopping at the town cemetery.&nbsp; At this point a senior from the high school would read the<br \/>\nDeclaration of Independence, then came the Pledge of Allegiance.&nbsp; After all this celebration everyone would<br \/>\nhead home to prepare their&nbsp; 4<sup>th<\/sup><br \/>\npicnics<\/div>\n<div>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-KfLJSi9Hw70\/T-4Rjvi9dMI\/AAAAAAAAAQs\/HVMo0knDKFM\/s1600\/fireworks+2.jpg\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-KfLJSi9Hw70\/T-4Rjvi9dMI\/AAAAAAAAAQs\/HVMo0knDKFM\/s320\/fireworks+2.jpg\" width=\"296\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nHere, in Santa Fe the day begins with Pancakes on the Plaza<br \/>\nwith patriotic songs rendered by the Community Concert Band.&nbsp; Thousands of Santa Feans (and tourists) walk<br \/>\nthrough downtown with small flags visiting craft vendors and inspecting the<br \/>\nvintage cars display.&nbsp; Then everyone<br \/>\nheads for home to light up their BBQs.&nbsp;<br \/>\nI might suggest someone reads aloud from such papers as the Preamble of<br \/>\nthe Constitution or the Emancipation Proclamation.&nbsp; Very powerful words we might reflect upon. <\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-joOvlfE37fA\/T-4RtsWCvTI\/AAAAAAAAAQ0\/eLCm-pKx3ZM\/s1600\/fireworks+3.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"233\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-joOvlfE37fA\/T-4RtsWCvTI\/AAAAAAAAAQ0\/eLCm-pKx3ZM\/s320\/fireworks+3.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div>\nThe textile du jour for this day is, of course, our<br \/>\nflag.&nbsp; It is seen everywhere in sizes<br \/>\nfrom miniature to the huge one flying over used car lots and fast food<br \/>\nrestaurants.&nbsp; They are seen on tee<br \/>\nshirts and ball caps, on napkins and paper picnic ware.&nbsp; There are other textiles created to honor<br \/>\nour history.&nbsp; Some are sentimental, some<br \/>\nare political, some bring a smile and some not so much.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-QtDTiFBIkb8\/T-4R_QkK2UI\/AAAAAAAAAQ8\/QgJlMcRs4tY\/s1600\/Washington+Delaware.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"640\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-QtDTiFBIkb8\/T-4R_QkK2UI\/AAAAAAAAAQ8\/QgJlMcRs4tY\/s640\/Washington+Delaware.jpg\" width=\"380\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<span style=\"background-color: white;\">This textile is a panel measuring 43&#215;23 inches depicting<br \/>\nGeorge Washington crossing the Delaware.<\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">The colors are startling with vivid reds, blues and gold. The fabric is<br \/>\ntextured reminiscent of \u201cbark cloth\u201d (the fabric your grandma used to cover her<br \/>\npatio furniture or perhaps used a draperies). This was produced by the Reliable<br \/>\nTextile Company of NY under the trademark Wesco-Relex . Other subjects for<br \/>\nsimilar textiles were patriotic motifs such as the bald eagle and, in a quite<br \/>\ndifferent vein, depictions of puppies and other cute animals. Supposedly, these<br \/>\npanels were meant to be hung as panels or framed. What in the world could they<br \/>\nhave been thinking? Which brings me to a dilemma.<\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">&nbsp; <\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">What in the world am I going to do with it?<\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">&nbsp; <\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">Would you believe I have two Geo.W, and<\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">&nbsp; <\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">friends panels.<\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">&nbsp; <\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">Well, back to the bottom of my collection, I guess.
