{"id":340,"date":"2016-10-30T21:08:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-30T21:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cinnamonstudio.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/30\/tsa-15th-biennial-symposium\/"},"modified":"2016-10-30T21:08:00","modified_gmt":"2016-10-30T21:08:00","slug":"tsa-15th-biennial-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinnamonstudio.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/tsa-15th-biennial-symposium.html","title":{"rendered":"TSA &#8211; 15th Biennial Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div>\nTSA 15<sup>th<\/sup> Biennial Symposium- Savannah<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThis year TSA partnered with SCAD-Savannah College of Art<br \/>\nand Design- to present an exploration of the cultural crosscurrents that shape<br \/>\ntextile production and practice.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-mrcPKXga2Y8\/WBZgeAW4PtI\/AAAAAAAACxc\/sUGEmBMTU2EIWrgp9yj8X_1Zqo4fV1ZJwCLcB\/s1600\/TSA-S-1.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-mrcPKXga2Y8\/WBZgeAW4PtI\/AAAAAAAACxc\/sUGEmBMTU2EIWrgp9yj8X_1Zqo4fV1ZJwCLcB\/s640\/TSA-S-1.jpg\" width=\"430\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nMore than 400 TSA members from 22 countries attended the 5<br \/>\nday symposium held in Savannah, Georgia.&nbsp;<br \/>\nFrom the opening reception at SCAD Museum of Art to the closing awards<br \/>\nbanquet the days were filled with seminars, site visits and tours.&nbsp; Independent researchers and historians, like<br \/>\nmyself, who are not affiliated with large institutions or museums feel, at<br \/>\ntimes, isolated from others in our field.&nbsp;<br \/>\nFrequently, we are not always in the immediate loop of the most current<br \/>\ninformation available.&nbsp; Seminars such as<br \/>\nthis are the perfect opportunity to confer with colleagues and renew<br \/>\nconnections.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThe wide scope of areas of textile studies was examined in<br \/>\nseminars and study sessions.&nbsp; Topics<br \/>\nincluded fibers and their production, technique of fabric manufacture, fashion,<br \/>\ncostume,&nbsp; dyes and design, museum studies<br \/>\nand collections.&nbsp; This year also<br \/>\nemphasized what was termed \u201ccross-currents\u201d.&nbsp;<br \/>\nThat is, the importance of trade, historically and currently.&nbsp; The world is not so very large and&nbsp; the \u201ctransnational flow of textiles\u201d as a<br \/>\nresult of global trading explains much of the history of textiles and continues<br \/>\nto be a major factor in today\u2019s world economy.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-h_6rD5kr2PA\/WBZgsuZ44pI\/AAAAAAAACxg\/PkO4-nYLXsk72BO_M5OvF4kRQ0RiHI5ggCLcB\/s1600\/TSA-S-2.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-h_6rD5kr2PA\/WBZgsuZ44pI\/AAAAAAAACxg\/PkO4-nYLXsk72BO_M5OvF4kRQ0RiHI5ggCLcB\/s640\/TSA-S-2.jpg\" width=\"422\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThe host city of Savannah was a most exciting venue for the<br \/>\nsymposium.&nbsp; Culturally, historically and<br \/>\ndown-right lovely it is well worth visiting.&nbsp;<br \/>\nI regret that I could not have stayed longer and, although this was not<br \/>\nmy first visit, it will definitely not be my last.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nFor more information about the Textile Society of&nbsp; America, including membership and additional<br \/>\nprograms, please visit their website http:\/\/textilesocietyofamerica.org.&nbsp; <\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TSA 15th Biennial Symposium- Savannah This year TSA partnered with SCAD-Savannah College of Art and Design- to present an exploration of the cultural crosscurrents that shape textile production and practice.
