I get requests for<br \/>\ntextile-related gift suggestions.&nbsp; I<br \/>\nusually suggest visits to thrift or antique shops for vintage table linens,<br \/>\nhankies, hand crochet doilies, etc.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThis year I thought of another idea.&nbsp; Why not visit your neighborhood bookstore<br \/>\n(used books or new).&nbsp; There are many<br \/>\nmagazines and books for every textile enthusiast .&nbsp; Whether your gift is for a quilter, knitter, weaver, fashion<br \/>\nfollower or collector a subscription to&nbsp;<br \/>\na related magazine is possible.&nbsp;<br \/>\nYou might try giving just one copy to see if they really love it and<br \/>\nthen complete the subscription.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n&nbsp; For others, there<br \/>\nare reference books and coffee-table flashy editions in a huge range of<br \/>\ntopics.&nbsp; The advantage of shopping<br \/>\nlocally is the book can be returned if it is not suitable and&nbsp; a gift certificate can be issued.&nbsp; There are also fiction and mystery books<br \/>\nwith textile themes .<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nDo not overlook the selection of \u201cgently used\u201d books.&nbsp; Often, out of print books are not only<br \/>\naffordable but valuable references.&nbsp; My<br \/>\nlast suggestion is a textile dictionary, encyclopedia or sourcebook.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nIf your recipient lives in a city near a textile or art<br \/>\nmuseum with a large textile collection, how about a museum membership?&nbsp; Or a membership to my favorite organization,<br \/>\nThe Textile Society of America.&nbsp; There<br \/>\nare textile guilds&nbsp; in most cities:<br \/>\nEmbroidery guild, Weaving and Spinning guild, Quilting guild and membership<br \/>\nfees are generally quite reasonable.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThoughtful gifts such as these will bring year-long enjoyment.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nHappy shopping!! <\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Christmas giving Each year, around this time.
