\nEyelet fabric can be described as a combination of lace and
\nembroidery.  It can be found in a
\nvariety of patterns which cover the fabric surface from selvage to
\nselvage.  Usually produced in white but
\noccasionally it can be found in colors.<\/div>\n

\nThe design is punched into the fabric ground by a series of
\nknives called bohers.  The \u201chole is then
\nstitched to prevent fraying.  <\/div>\n

\nIn the 1860\u2019s an early hand-operated embroidery machine was
\ndeveloped, subsequently, a 24 needle machine was produce which could be powered
\nby hand or electricity..  This machine
\nwas known as the \u201cschiffli\u201d, German for boat.  
\nPrograms were written in punch paper( somewhat similar to Jacqard
\nweaving and computer punch cards).<\/div>\n

\nToday a modern schiffli machine is 65 feet long and 16 feet
\nhigh, containing 1,020 needles.. Most manufacturers in the US using these
\nembroidery machines are in New Jersey.  These
\nmachines are computer run.<\/div>\n
